Welcome to my page! My name is Jada McGlothin and I am a military spouse and have 4 children. I am a licensed special education teacher, but I have been on a hiatus for the past 3 years because I had 2 babies. So I am a stay at home mom and loving it! My hobbies include traveling, thrifting, and creating hair products for myself and my 2 daughters.
Meet my beautiful daughters Brooklyn and Kori! If you haven’t guessed by now, B & K are their initials. Brooklyn is 12 years old and Kori is 6. Both my daughters have very tightly coiled kinky 4c hair and I found it quite difficult to find hair products that moisturized their hair effectively. Other products were either contained mineral oils, were protein enriched, had parabens, or they just simply did not keep their hair moisturized for an entire day.
A lot of other products would just sit thus not penetrating into their hair. These two beautiful girls inspired me to create something specific for their (as well as mine) hair type! After using my products for a little over a year I’ve notice a significant change in their hair. It’s softer, keeps their hair moisturized for longer periods of time, and their hair is longer, so much longer!
B & K kinky Coil products are designed SPECIFICALLY for type 4 hair, particularly type 4c low porosity hair. There are not many natural hair products that caters to 4c hair and 4c only. Furthermore, there are not many products that cater to your hair porosity. Again, the market is missing products that cater to 4c hair and 4c only.
I have been natural for 7 years and have gone through hundreds of dollars on hair products that did nothing for my hair. In my opinion, a lot of other products for natural hair cater to naturals with a wide range of hair types i.e. loose curly naturals. It bothered me that there are many products for curly naturals but not specifically for kinky coily natural’s with low porosity hair. So here we are!
What is hair porosity?
Hair porosity is your hairs ability to absorb and retain moisture. Your hair can fall under three categories; high, medium or low. You can see which category your hair falls under by doing the water test. Take a clean strand of your hair, place it in a cup of water and wait about 5 minutes. If it floats than you have low porosity hair, if it stays in the middle of the cup you have medium porosity hair, and if it sinks to the bottom you have high porosity hair.
Our low porosity hair
My daughters and I all have low porosity hair. This means our kinks and coils are prone to product buildup, especially from protein-rich products. This can cause dry, frizzy and unhealthy looking hair. Low porosity hair is moisture resistant, this means that it is hard to get moisture into our hair, but once it gets in, we don't need to worry as much about our hair drying out. This is why B & K products work so well for us! With low porosity hair, in my experience, less is more. We use light carrier oils, essential oil, and of course Shea butter which is the ultimate moisturizer. We use the LOC method for our hair.

LOC vs LCO, Which One Will You Choose?
The terms LOC and LCO are very popular within the natural hair community. LOC means liquid, oil, cream and LCO means liquid, cream, oil. This method is used to lock in and retain moisture and can last as long as 2-3 days before needed reapplication. Here’s how it works, with the LOC (liquid, oil, cream) method, you apply a liquid, preferably water or your favorite water based leave in conditioner, and seal with B & K’s Oil Treatment and then apply B & K’s Whipped Shea Butter Moisturizer.
With the LCO (liquid, cream, oil) method, you apply water or your favorite water based leave in conditioner, followed by B & K’s Whipped Shea Butter Moisturizer, and B & K’s Oil Treatment comes last.
Have used both methods with my girls and have found that the LOC methods works best for their low porosity hair.
